چکیده

Abstract Background Patients with IBD receive a variety of medications that modulate the immune response. However, many render patients more susceptible to opportunistic infections. Varicella zoster virus (VZV) infection, in particular, has been well reported patients, mostly CD. Chickenpox results from primary VZV and is predominantly seen pediatric population. Primary prevention via vaccination for VZV, plays an important role preventing infections before they start immunomodulators, corticosteroid or biologic therapy. Given advent vaccines, it determine if should be considered immunization at younger age. Aims 1) To document prevalence herpes (HZV) infection further investigate characteristics hosts 2) assess severity this patient population Methods A single center retrospective cohort study was conducted Montreal Children’s Hospital. Pediatric (age < 18 years) who developed HZV 2004- 2019 were identified. Data regarding location, severity, treatment, complications list all immunosuppressive time retrieved as data demographics, medical history, status including vaccine, disease behavior. Results total 9 identified had HZV. Eight out CD one UC, 6 8 extensive disease. The vaccine up date varicella serology prior starting steroids agents. nine on biologics. local disease, skin only, systemic meningitis. Four their either stopped next doses delayed, while other steroids, methotrexate, thiopurines continued. Five treated intravenous acyclovir then oral valacyclovir. rest started valacyclovir switched due overall prognosis illness good, resulted full resolution, meningitis case. Conclusions Our suggests being medication significant increasing chances reactivation Although our limited involvement, there infection. Close attention mandatory documentation prudent especially medications. Further studies are needed these vaccinated recombinant vaccine. Funding Agencies None
